Even in the Deepest Darkness<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

in the Thickest Fog,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like This Moon on a Wintry Morning,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

God Does Not Hide From Us.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ezekiel 39:29<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

… and I will never again hide my face from them, when I pour out my spirit upon the house of Israel, says the Lord God.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romans 8:16<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

… it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, ….<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Words of Grace For Today<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When God shows God\u2019s face …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ancient times knew that when one saw God\u2019s face, that was the last thing one would see. One died, and quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God visits Moses, calling him to lead God\u2019s people from slavery to freedom. God hides in a burning bush that is not consumed. Moses is convinced it is God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moses climbs Mount Sinai and God shows God\u2019s face to Moses giving him the ten commandments, twice since the people have put up a golden calf to worship. Moses has disappeared up the holy mountain. That\u2019s where God is, and surely Moses has seen God and … of course died. So the people move on, insisting Aaron make a godlet for them from their most precious gold. Moses sees this and throws the stone tables of the ten commandments down, breaking them on the rocks. After the people\u2019s sins are dealt with, Moses climbs the mountain again, and chisels a new set of the same ten commandments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moses sees God, twice. And Moses\u2019 face shows it: he has turned ashen white from the exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when God promises to never hide God\u2019s face from the Israelites again, after God returns to them, is that a promise or a threat?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will the people turn ashed white from the exposure, or die?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

is something else afoot?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will God show God\u2019s face and bless the people?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When God\u2019s Spirit gives witness, to our spirits (the German translation interprets the genitive \u2018our spirits\u2019 as \u2018to our spirits\u2019, instead of the English which interprets it \u2018with our spirits\u2019, the \u2018to\u2019 makes better sense), then we can know that we are God\u2019s children and …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

children need not fear seeing their parent, not if the parent is a good parent as God is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can give God thanks and praise that God is with us, and does not hide God\u2019s face from us, children of God that we are.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
