Is This The Path To Laughing, Loving, and Living?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Can We Know?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isaiah 25:8<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

… he will swallow up death for ever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

John 16:20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus said: Very truly, I tell you, you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will have pain, but your pain will turn into joy.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Words of Grace For Today<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the movie Collateral Beauty, the father cannot face the pain of having lost his daughter, so he goes into withdrawal from life, a living death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He cannot say anything about his daughter, not even her name, the disease that killed her or her age at her death. Nothing. For anything is already too much to bear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Death is that thing that robs us of …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of everything,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

everything that holds life together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is, therefore, quite the promise that God will swallow up death forever, that our tears of grief will be wiped away, and our pain will be turned into joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When death has taken life and breathing itself right out of us, these are promises we cannot trust, not at all, not at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then God does something, not centre stage,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but off in the wings,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

off some place we have to look to see<\/p>\n\n\n\n

or we will miss it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the collateral beauty that God sends our way, not to rob us of our grief and the healing that can come, and the strength from healing,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but rather to start us on our healing path,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a path that takes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then<\/p>\n\n\n\n

finally<\/p>\n\n\n\n

we are home<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

we<\/p>\n\n\n\n

get<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

see<\/p>\n\n\n\n

beauty<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

breathe in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end the father comes to see his daughter\u2019s face dancing with him and say his daughter\u2019s name, Olivia, GBM (a rare form of cancer) and that she was six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those things are not life, but facing death\u2019s reality, …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

well that allows us to begin to live ever so slightly<\/p>\n\n\n\n

so<\/p>\n\n\n\n

that<\/p>\n\n\n\n

love can reach our hearts again,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and we can laugh<\/p>\n\n\n\n

once more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If ever so little<\/p>\n\n\n\n
