What’s Stopping Us?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What keeps us from venturing to the far horizons of God\u2019s Call to us?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Genesis 12:1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the Lord said to Abram, \u2018Go from your country and your kindred and your father\u2019s house to the land that I will show you.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hebrews 6:12<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Words of Grace For Today<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

God tells Abram to up and go. We know the rest of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How would we describe it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A shake-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An effort for a better future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A decision for the kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A mid-life crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting free from the old man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting out from underneath mom\u2019s thumb, as kind as it may be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unexpected word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A rationalization for one\u2019s own desire to break free and move to the horizons of the unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listening to God and following God\u2019s commands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heading to the moon or Mars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A one-way ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A long trek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoping for peace and conning everyone along the way to becoming rich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding the foreign land inhabited by others and claiming it for oneself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colonialism gets it\u2019s start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Striking fear into all in your way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting everything one could dream of, except a child, and heir to one\u2019s massive fortune. And then, after trying in all sorts of destructive ways to fulfill God\u2019s promises, seeing God deliver a child, an heir, a future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Descendants as many as the stars, as many as the sand on the shores of the oceans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Off-spring who will believe differently and kill each other for millennia as if that were the Word of God for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And again: Humans fail miserably. God wins by Grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hebrews and so many others still write, think, pray, speak, and act as if we humans could earn God\u2019s Grace, or as in chapter 6 (see below for verses 1-12), we could possibly \u2018hold on to God\u2019s Grace\u2019 by our own thoughts, words, and deeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there you go … humans trying to go it alone, even when we have known God\u2019s Grace to save us, as if that were a one time event, instead of a constant on-going never-ending work on God\u2019s part for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us listen and follow God\u2019s Word,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and pray<\/p>\n\n\n\n

that the Holy Spirit will make us able to do so<\/p>\n\n\n\n
